The Tirana Court of Appeals sentenced former police officer Nevaldo Hajdaraj to 18 years in prison for killing 25-year-old Klodian Rasha.
Based on the shortened trial, he will suffer 12 years in prison.
Nevaldo Hajdaraj was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the court of first instance and would suffer 10 years from the shortened trial.
With the decision of this Wednesday, March 16, the Appeal has added the years of punishment to the former effective.
The prosecution requested his sentence to the maximum provided by the criminal offense, with 20 years in prison. Further, the prosecution said that there are no mitigating circumstances for the former effective, this is due to attempts to bring a version which does not stand, ie the danger posed by the victim Klodian Rasha.
On the other hand, Rasha’s lawyer said that the Court of Appeals should change the criminal offense, as the murder was not intentional, but in overcoming the need to defend oneself, as the former officer claims that he felt his life was in danger.
Qazim Rasha, the victim’s father, said: “I am a parent in the face of injustice and you, the judges, are the ones who have to decide it to make it easier for me too. “The claims of the lawyers and the defendants for danger are games and a soap opera that no one believes, they do not stand.”
