On July 17, the Albanian state offices were hit by a cyber attack, which affected the data of e-Albania.
Eight days later, a group calling itself Homeland Justice published official documents of Albanian institutions. Computer network engineer Erion Demiri says that the publication of the salary list of Albanians and other official documents shows that we are not simply dealing with a cyber attack, but with a structured group where individuals within the offices of the the state and who have access to online systems.
“The moment we have an amount of data coming out continuously over long time segments, the mind goes to something more internal. If the persons are authorized, they have the access, otherwise the access can be obtained through different forms related to the attacks made to the network and server structures”.
The website where the official documents were published was created three days after the cyber attack that caused the digital darkness.
“It is a page set up on a domain baby, these domains have the Russian confederation as their main registries. However, anyone can create a domain with dotru. This page was registered on July 20.
As long as the culprit and the origin of the cyber attack have not been found, the online data of the Albanian state may again be part of a cyber attack.
“We may have at the moment that these data have been exported somewhere and of course they can make them public”. Demiri said.
While the first attack is not over yet. Official gov.al mail services are all blocked. The hackers who published the documents hit this very service, which also provided official communications.
“There is a very large market on the Internet that deals with the sale and purchase of data that is used in various ways, blackmail against countries, persons, certain companies, falsification of communications between companies, industrial espionage.”
On the other hand, there is still no official response to show what is happening with the cyber attack.
