Nick Kyrgios is one of the most atypical tennis players of this sport.
A career which has not been easy at all for the 27-year-old, as problems outside of sports have always been sensational. Since childhood, Kyrgios has always dreamed of basketball and continued playing tennis only for the sake of his parents, recently he confessed some of his greatest sufferings such as suicidal thoughts or drug addiction.
“I had suicidal thoughts, it was a dark period for me. I didn’t want to get out of bed and not play in front of millions of people. I was alone and depressed, abusing drugs and alcohol. I pushed my friends and family away from me, I felt like I couldn’t trust anyone.
This was as a result of being separated from my loved ones. Now I am very proud to say that I am a totally different person, I enjoy every moment and I want people to reach their maximum potential and be happy. Life is Beautiful.
It has been difficult for me to break away from basketball. It was my first love and for me basketball serves as meditation. But when I was 14, my parents told me not to play basketball anymore. My heart hurt, it still does. It was very difficult to leave basketball, I love it very much.”
Most recently, Kyrgios is facing allegations of violence from former model girlfriend, Chiara Passari. The Australian tennis player will have to appear in court next month as he risks being sentenced to two years in prison.
However, despite the troubles, Kyrgios is already fully focused on the big final of his career, given that he has to challenge an outstanding colleague like Novak Djokovic, who has not lost at Wimbledon since 2017.
