The bear no longer sleeps in winter. In the trap cameras installed by the Administration of Protected Areas, for the monitoring of wild fauna in the Shebenik National Park, movements of bears have been observed even at this snowy time.
Specialists explain this fact with rising temperatures, which means that the bear is no longer doing its lethargic sleep. But the hunting moratorium has affected the animals to multiply and the species photographed in Shebenik are numerous.
Trap cameras are located where animal paths are thought to be. If a few years ago the Balkan lynx was an endangered species, now it has established its habitat in Shebenik.
Even the fact that hunting is free in northern Macedonia has made the animals find shelter in the protected area of Shebenik.
