After a decade on the production line, the BMW i3 as we know it will officially be discontinued.
Production of the company’s first all-electric vehicle ends next month, but there are a number of new electric cars from Bavaria currently in development that come in response to requests for battery-powered cars from customers around the world.
Among these new models is the new i3, which will become the successor of Series 3 with zero emissions, Telegrafi reports.
Bimmerpost seems to be aware that the new i3 in sedan and wagon models will be produced in Mexico starting in 2027.
Motor1 say they don’t yet know the source of this information, but according to a BMW enthusiast forum, the electric 3 Series for the North American market will be assembled at BMW Group’s plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. While for the European market, production will take place in Debrecen, Hungary.
But what’s even more interesting, these rumors suggest that the US or even Canada will have the long-roof version of the new i3 model when the new model hits the market in these countries later this decade.
While nothing can be confirmed at this early stage, the 3 Series electric car will roll into assembly lines in Mexico in two versions – the internal designation NA0 is for the i3 sedan, while NA1 is for the i3 wagon. /Telegraph/
