The consequences of the war in Ukraine, are entering less goods, but more expensive

In value, exports increased by 36.8% while imports by 28.6%, while at the same time the trade deficit increased.

The groups that have helped our country maintain the high pace of exports are construction materials and metals, minerals, fuels, electricity and textiles.

In terms of imports in our country have entered the most expensive fuels, machinery, spare parts and food.

With the war countries, Albania continues to trade, although at rates twice lower than a year ago. With Russia we have completely reduced energy dependence, but we have got twice as many building materials and metals.

Meanwhile, we sent 25 million ALL of food to Ukraine, while we continued to receive food products, but at stratospheric prices. If last year we received 5,300 tons of food for 224 million ALL, for 900 tons this year we paid 260 million ALL, ie five times more expensive. The increase came due to imports of cooking oil.

In terms of trade with countries in the region, we continue to increase the volume with Serbia, but we have deepened the trade deficit from about 91 million ALL a year ago to 814 million ALL. We have reduced the trade deficit with Bosnia, but we have increased it with Montenegro.

With Northern Macedonia, with which we had a trade surplus, the situation has already returned, creating a deficit of ALL 400 million. The reason is the high import of minerals and fuels.

With Kosovo we have reduced the amount of products we send, but we have increased the ones we receive. Exports to Kosovo are 90% of the total of the other five Western Balkan countries.

With the EU countries remaining our traditional trading partners, Germany and Italy have made a difference by significantly increasing their trade volume by almost doubling, both in imports and exports.
