The leaders of Germany and France have called on Russian President Vladimir Putin for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine.
According to a reading of the Elysée Palace, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron and Putin have held a tripartite phone call today.
Scholz and Macron also insisted that any solution to the crisis must be negotiated between Russia and Ukraine.
Elysée suggests that the three leaders have promised to remain in close contact with each other in the coming days.
European Union leaders are meeting outside Paris on Thursday to discuss the war in Ukraine.
