The Democratic Party has decided to vote in favor of extending the deadlines for vetting bodies in exchange for meeting its two main conditions, the implementation of territorial reform and electoral reform.
Sources for Top Channel confirm that the decision was made this morning at the meeting of the PD parliamentary group.
This Thursday, the parliamentary session will be held, where after the vote for the extension of the mandate for the vetting bodies, the assembly will vote for the establishment of 2 commissions for the immediate implementation of the PD requirements.
The delegations of the USA and some European countries requested two days ago the extension of the vetting deadlines, considering it an important element for the justice system in Albania.
Through a statement, the British Embassy emphasizes that the implementation of justice reform is essential for an independent and efficient justice system for the future of Albania.

Vetting of judges and prosecutors is an essential element of justice reform. To enable vetting institutions to carry out their mission, it is necessary to amend the constitution to extend their mandate for a limited period. The Venice Commission confirmed that the proposed extension is in line with European standards and is necessary to guarantee equality before the law and legal certainty.
The ambassadors say that the proposed extension of vetting is strongly supported by Albania’s friends who want to see our country in the EU as soon as possible.
“This is not a party issue, we hope that all MPs, regardless of party affiliation, see this as a matter of national interest and vote in accordance with it, as they have always supported Albania’s European path.
