The European Union in Kosovo has strongly condemned the violent attack on the Kosovo Border Police patrol in the municipality of Zubin Potok this morning.
“Kosovo Police is the main provider of security and any use of force against its police officers is unacceptable”it is said in the reaction of the European Union Office in Kosovo.
Four synchronized attacks have occurred against the Kosovo Police in the north of the country in the last three days. The last one was this morning where the police patrols were attacked with hand grenades and Kalashnikov AK 47, but thanks to the armored vehicles there were no injured police officers. The attacks by Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla and Kosovo Police Director Samedin Mehmeti were called terrorist attacks.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, reacted to these attacks, calling on Serbia to distance itself from the violent terrorist attacks on the Kosovo Police, which he said were identified as coming from the territory of Serbia.
The attacks took place in Zubin Potok in the northern municipalities of Kosovo, on the border with Serbia. A few months ago, police closed several illegal roads in the area.
Kosovo police officers were attacked with Kalashnikovs and hand grenades this morning, an incident that restores the shadow of tensions in an area of the country prone to them.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, confirmed in a press conference that this is the fourth attack during the last three days. He said the effectives were attacked at the time they were changing shifts. “In the north, around 7:20, there was an attack on the Kosovo Police, whose employees were going to carry out the shift at the border crossings. “This attack, already proven with a hand grenade and AK47 as a terrorist act, was intentional and targeted police officers and all citizens of Kosovo,” he said.
It is thought that different groups have undertaken four attacks in that area during these three days.
