Top Channel has provided footage of the ferry following the battle with the flames after it was engulfed by fire in the early hours of this morning.
There were 239 passengers and 51 crew members on board. From the counting done to the passengers in the lifeboats, it is reported that 11 are missing. Meanwhile, 2 people suspected of being of Bulgarian origin were found trapped inside and are trying to get them out while explosions were heard from the ship’s garage. The captain of the ferry demanded and ordered her abandonment and the passengers immediately boarded the lifeboats. Three Greek Coast Guard ships, tugboats and other nearby ships arrived at the scene immediately.
Meanwhile, two ships of the Albanian Coast Guard and a tugboat have started to help. The rescue operation is being pursued by the Greeks while our forces are assisting by staying away from the ship. According to the representatives of the armed forces, the Albanian ships are on standby and in rapid intervention. So far there has been no need for intervention. The ship has been relocated and is located between Himara and Portopalermo.
