It is never too late in football, even if you have spent 20 years of your life. Glasgow Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor hopes to win the first European trophy of his career tonight at Sanchez Pijzuan against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final.
It went very close to him in 2008, also in the ranks of the Rangers, but in that final the Scottish team was defeated 2-0 by Zenit at the Manchester City stadium (Allan McGregor, then 26 years old, still did not play due to injury ).
14 years later, the Rangers and Allan McGregor are back in the finals and do not want to fail a second time. The veteran goalkeeper is not the only survivor of that unfortunate final. With him was Steven Davis, still part of the Rangers, who nurtures the same desire for revenge as his colleague at the gate.
An unfortunate relationship that of McGregor with the cup finals. In 2014, when he played for Hull City, the Scotsman reached the last act of the FA Cup against Arsenal, but could not win it. Despite Hull’s double lead after 8 minutes of play, the Gunners finally took the trophy with Aaron Ramsey’s goal in extra time.
