Today Slovenia confirmed the first case of the Omicron BA.2 subgroup, said the head of the national laboratory, Tjasha Johar Cretnik. She said it is still not clear if this subset is more contagious than the original.
Cretnik said BA.2 was discovered in Podravje, the STA agency reported. She added that, according to unconfirmed data, there is a possibility that two cases of subtype BA.2 have been detected at the Institute of Microbiology and Immunology in Ljubljana.
BA.1 is the first type of omicron, which replaced the delta variant in a few weeks and now represents, at least in Slovenia, 95% of new infections.
The British Public Health Agency recently detected more than 400 cases of the omicron subgroup in the first 10 days of January, stating that BA.2 was detected in 40 other countries, including India, Denmark and Sweden, where most are found. of these omicron subgroups.
