UNOPS in close cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of Albania is implementing the 4-year program funded by the European Union, EU for Culture (EU4Culture): “Revitalization of Albania’s cultural heritage in response to the 2019 earthquake in Albania, 2020-2024.”
This initiative aims to mitigate the impact of the earthquake on the cultural heritage of Albania, revitalizing and adding value to the cultural heritage sites and monuments affected by the earthquake, and consequently helping to promote and socio-economic recovery of Albania by increasing the tourism potential of country.
Under the Grant Scheme, UNOPS announces the First Public Call for Project Proposals for Local Socio-Economic Development through Cultural Heritage.
Through this Call for Proposals, the EU4Culture program will fund projects to be implemented by interested civil society organizations and other non-profit organizations (NGOs). Funded projects will focus on actions aimed at meeting the following objectives:
-Supporting socio-economic growth opportunities for local communities near cultural heritage sites by linking culture with the environment and innovative forms of tourism;
-Raising public and institutional awareness on the role of cultural heritage as a driver for sustainable socio-economic development, social inclusion and gender equality.
Approved projects will receive funding ranging from 30,000 to 60,000 USD. The implementation period will last from six to twelve months, starting from May 2022. The projects will take place in Durrës, Krujë, Kavaja and Rrogozhinë, near the EU4Culture project areas.
All participating organizations must be legally registered as non-profit organizations (NGOs) including civil society organizations, artisans ‘associations, tour operators’ associations, business associations or social enterprises, cultural, business and tourism innovation centers and laboratories (only when registered as non-profit), as well as research institutes and academic centers (only when registered as non-profit).
