“Today we have understood more than ever that Tirana that we left behind 7 years ago, when the garbage became a mound and when it smelled of pollution, is a story of the past. But, the good has no end and the reason why civilization moves forward is that it always aspires for better and higher, for more beautiful and cleaner, for more hygiene. Today, we start a second revolution to clean up Tirana, which has to do with the way we collect waste. I know whoever seeks to find something that does not go, will always find something, like that expression ‘hip that I killed you, come down that I killed you’, but most citizens want things to go forward; they want a cleaner city, more order and they want Tirana to have maximum hygiene “, said Veliaj.
Bringing to attention the violent protests of the opposition, when unfortunately there were cases of burning waste containers, Veliaj said that politics should never be confused with the hygiene of the city. “We started with those plastic bins, with a very strong composition, and we thought they would stand the test of time. I remember the political protests in Tirana, where the way of expressing dissatisfaction with a political representative was burning the bins, so I want to say to all those who burn the bins for politics: Elections will come, who does not love the mayor, let vote against! Who does not love the Prime Minister, let him vote against! Who does not love a political party, let him vote against! But why should the boiler be burned, where everyone throws garbage, both left and right; why the infrastructure that keeps all our families, both left and right, clean and destroyed; “Why should politics be confused with something like hygiene, which, regardless of who runs the city, should make it sparkle and should always raise it higher and higher,” he declared.
New containers are metal, making them many times more durable. “In order to respond to the vandal acts, we have taken our own measures, to make sure that Tirana, not most of the time, not generally, but every day and always, is clean. We have made a transition: we are moving from large plastic bins, which have worked for the most part, to green bins and blue, metal bins, which will be massively everywhere in the city “, said Veliaj, while asking for cooperation of citizens for keeping the city clean.
