As part of Europe Week, “VIZart Tirana International Watercolor Festival”, in collaboration with the National Historical Museum opened yesterday the IV edition of the contemporary visual arts festival. This year the festival has two exhibitions, one at the National Historical Museum and one at the Art Gallery in Tirana.
In the ceremony of this activity were present the Mayor Erion Veliaj, the painter Ormira Lulani, president of “VIZart Cultural Organization”, the director of the National Historical Museum, dr. Dorian Koçi, Founder and President of IwS Globe Art NetWork, Mr. Atanur Dogan, who welcomed the event emphasizing the values and importance it carries in uniting borders, cultures, ages and genders.
Mayor Veliaj stressed that a city like Tirana should support not only people in need, but also provide art for its citizens. “We take care of the needy, social housing, canteens, those in street situation, and all the needs of the community, but the question is: do people live only on bread? Or do they live on art, culture, painting, books, opera, ballet and theater? That’s why we believe a good city should do both. It should be a city that nourishes the stomach for those in need, but for all the needy who need to nourish the soul, it also offers that kind of food “, said Veliaj.
The Mayor said that “VIZart Tirana International watercolor Festival” is a fantastic opportunity for the capital and for young people who will have the opportunity to display their works, along with more experienced painters. Veliaj stressed that filling Tirana with so many cultural activities is the face of modern Albania. “I believe that the idea of this biennial to pair those who are more experienced from all over the world, with someone who is young and has just started this career with this passion, is fantastic. I believe that it goes to Tirana as the European Capital of Youth. The fact that Tirana is full of activities, we show another image of our Albania, of our Tirana, which will certainly have to restore the image of ’97 -’98, for which none of the young people today is to blame. I believe that this is the face of modern Albania, of the new Albania that we need to show “, underlined Veliaj.
The Mayor assured that the Art Gallery in Tirana will be an open door to support young artists to display their talent. “You do not need to have a lot of budget, you do not need to have a lot of space, the Art Gallery of Tirana has given an opportunity almost every 2 weeks for an artist to express himself”, declared Veliaj.
The “MASTER AWARD” award was given to watercolor master Stanislaw Zolaz from Sweden and Silvia Monge from Costa Rica. While Krasi Todorov from Bulgaria was awarded the “Best Portrait Artist”. Najsa Dishnica from Italy was awarded the “BEST YOUNGE ARTIST” award. The winners of the International Award “Ismail Lulani” are Zake Prelvukaj from Kosovo and Pjerin Kolnikaj and Mikel Temo from Albania. VIZart and IwS Albania decided to give the “HONOR AWARD” to the team of Ukrainian artists participating in the event.
In the coming days will continue with live demonstrations of international artists at the Lyceum “Jordan Misja” of Tirana and the University of Arts, where international artists and students will paint together. This art festival will continue for several days in a row for local and foreign visitors, as an extraordinary opportunity to engage with art and culture and will remain open to visit until May 14th.
