A French court has fined a consumer who sent an inappropriate message “Hurry up slave!” To a courier of African descent from a fast-food ‘food company’
Message distributor Yaya Guirassy, originally from Guinea, was shocked when he was confronted with the message “Hurry up slave!” sent to his cell phone by the customer to whom the message was being sent, last year.
According to the network “France Bleu Mayenne”, Yaya Guirassy in 2021 was working as a courier for the distribution of food in a company in the city of Laval in the north of the country, when faced with the shocking situation.
Following the message, Guirassy refused to send the message and lodged a complaint arguing that it was an “insult based on origin”.
The consumer, tried on the grounds of “racist insult”, did not appear in court at the hearing held on May 23, but the court sentenced her to a fine in the amount of 1,000 euros.
“I could not send the message because these insults were unbearable, if I had gone there I could have clashed with him,” 34-year-old Yaya told France Bleu Mayenne.
Yaya Guirassy came to France in 2009 and had worked for a year for the distribution company without such problems.
Guirassy said it no longer works with distributions but is engaged in the agri-food sector.
