A man has accidentally shot to death his fiancée, a few days before their wedding, and is already being investigated for murder.
The 44-year-old suspect, known only by his first name Dmitry, was demonstrating the new rifle to a friend when he accidentally shot his 37-year-old fiancée Tatyana.
The children of the late Tatyana were in the adjoining room and heard the scream, before coming alarmed and seeing their bloodied mother to death.
Local media reported that the couple were at their home in Dnipro, central Ukraine, when their friend Oleksiy Kondratev came to visit.
The three of them had gone to the bedroom where Dmitry pulled out his 12 caliber rifle, the HATSAN, and was showing it to his friend.
“Dmitry was holding the rifle at abdominal level when he noticed that the weapon was aimed at Tatyana. “As soon as he tried to move him aside, the rifle fired,” Kondratev told the media.
Tatyana was a swimming teacher and had two children, two boys, aged 13 and 11, who ran into the room when they heard the bang.
Neighbor of the adjoining apartment Lyudmila Mikhailovna said: “Tatyana was lying on the floor in a pool of blood, her belly was open.”
Emergency doctors who arrived on the scene declared him dead.
The autopsy showed that Tatyana had been shot in the abdomen with a bullet with multiple dice, commonly used in hunting weapons.
Police have launched a criminal investigation into Dmitry, who has been arrested.
Police spokeswoman Anna Starchevska said: “The suspect was pointing his gun at a friend when he pointed it at the victim. He says he shot him accidentally. “The woman died from a gunshot wound.”
Dmitry was a security guard at a private company and his friend said he had bought the gun to protect the family as he lived in a dangerous area.
The victim’s mother Nila Mymrina said: “It was an accident. Dmitry must be released. “My daughter was happy with that man.”
Dmitry’s close friend Oleksandr Volkov, who was helping with the wedding preparations, said the couple had known each other for ten years. “Dmitry met Tatyana on a bus 10 years ago.
“When she got off the bus he followed her and said she had forgotten something, before putting a piece of paper in her pocket. “He wrote down his phone number and she got it on the phone two weeks later,” Volkov said.
“They were happy that morning, but now she is in the grave and he is in prison.”
