High temperatures in the winter season turn almost into a struggle for survival for the homeless.
There are many cases when homeless people spend the night outside on the street or in the corners of buildings.
To help them, the municipal teams monitor even at night. After identifying such cases, they send them to the Tirana Shelter. It offers accommodation and food.
“It is expected from the psycho-social staff, food is provided, shelter and the deepest assessment of the case is made. In cooperation with the community centers, a long-term plan for the integration of the case is developed. The goal is for the cases to receive the necessary services to be reintegrated into the community “, he explains the director of the Community Field Center, Aida Isaraj.
During these cold days, the number of people who need shelter in the center is higher, currently there are 28 of them.
“In the field we monitor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, various reports are received, there may be more than 5 cases per day, especially in these cold days the number of cases is even greater,” says Isaraj.
Through field groups and citizen reporting, the number of homeless people on the streets has decreased in the last two years.
