The Minister of Justice Etilda Gjonaj held an online meeting with the Minister of Justice of Spain, Mr. Juan Carlos Campo Moreno, with whom he discussed justice reform, the fight against corruption and organized crime, as well as jurisdictional relations between our countries.
The strengthening of judicial relations with Spain, the importance of cooperation in the fight against transnational crime and the historic partnership with Spain will be followed by concrete steps in the field of justice.
Minister Gjonaj expressed to the Spanish counterpart the consideration for the support that Spain has given to Albania, especially in the process of opening negotiations with the EU.
Also, the Minister of Justice Gjonaj informed the Minister of Justice of Spain that Albania is currently engaged and has undertaken a profound Reform in the justice system such as the Justice Reform, the results of which are timely, but there has been a progress good of its results as new institutions like SPAK and BKH have been set up.
The Minister of Justice of Spain for his part assured the Albanian counterpart on the support that Spain is ready to provide to concretize and coordinate cooperation according to areas of common interest.
Also, the Minister of Justice Etilda Gjonaj asked the Spanish counterpart, Mr. Juan Carlos Campo Moreno following with priority the execution of the Albanian request for legal aid sent by the Ministry of Justice on 09.02.2021 in connection with the criminal proceedings initiated by the Prosecution of the First Instance Tirana for the criminal offense of Illegal Sale of Organs, in the context of the investigation regarding the citizen Saimir Sula, who passed away in the Hospital del Mar of Barcelona in Spain and the verifications that are being carried out regarding the results of the autopsy performed.
The Minister of Justice of Spain, Mr. Juan Carlos Campo Moreno guaranteed his support in this request related to an event of great human and public sensitivity.
We recall that the 33-year-old Albanian, Saimir Sula died in Spain, but arrived in Tirana without a heart. It is learned that the young man lived in Spain with his sister and had gone to Hospital Del Mar, Barcelona Spain to be checked for covid-19. But he could not have come out alive from there and the worst in Tirana arrived without the organ of the heart.
