Over a thousand hectares of agricultural land in the district of Elbasan has been invaded by the locust, which has severely damaged the crops.
The largest infection occurs in the area of Dumre, but sporadic outbreaks also exist in other villages.
The locust has irreversibly damaged all the crops, while according to the farmers it is already attacking the orchards.
The Plant Protection Agency is aware of the situation and has advised the farmers, but in these dimensions of the spread of the infection, the solution cannot be more individual.
And while this year’s damages are incalculable, the risk that the infection will repeat next year is great, since the shrimp has already created the breeding conditions in these areas.
As every crop in the field was destroyed, the locust has invaded the grape vineyards while the farmers also fear damage to the olive tree, the only one left untouched so far.
