A Chilean man who was paid 200 times his salary has resigned and disappeared despite agreeing to return the money, according to reports from the country.
The employee, who has not been publicly named, felt like he had won the lottery after being paid 286 wages by his employers, a meat company called Cial, Chilean media reported.
After receiving his salary which was mistakenly paid a total of 65,398,851 Chilean pesos ($170,000), instead of the usual salary of 500,000 pesos ($500) he disappeared.
The local daily ‘Diario Financiero’ wrote that when the managers noticed the mistake, the employee was immediately contacted to ask him to return the large amount.
And normally he had promised to go to the bank the next morning to return the money.
But in an unexpected turn of events, he was not seen at work the next day.
The stunned drivers tried to make contact, but to no avail.
Ironically a few days later, someone else submitted a resignation letter on behalf of the wanted person, who has not been seen since.
The meat company is already seeking legal help to recover the money, of which there is still no visible trace.
Similarly in May, a man in Japan who had received the entire ¥46.3 million (€338,580) city medical aid fund on his mobile phone admitted to gambling on his mobile phone within two weeks.
According to local newspaper SoraNews24, the mistake occurred as his name was at the top of a list of information sent to the bank, which it believed it was sending to the city’s municipality.
The 24-year-old from the town of Abu in the west of Japan had spent all the money in online casinos but vowed to pay the money “little by little”, writes the British Mirror.
