A terrifying video of an ‘alien entity’ believed to have once been recorded by Soviet scientists is still hailed by keen UFO researchers as the clearest sighting of an extraterrestrial.
And in fact of all the videos that claim to be “proof” of alien creatures visiting earth or in some cases “of earth”, none is more difficult to explain away than this one of the extraterrestrial known in the West as ” Skinny Bobby”.
In footage first released in 2011, the diminutive creature is seen with its super-sized skull and giant black eyes, which have now become standard for illustrative images of alien visitors.
The video was originally posted by an anonymous Reddit user named Ivan 0135, explaining that it was recorded by the Soviet KGB services after the crash of a spacecraft in Russia, which came from the “Zeta Reticuli star system”.
“Skinny Bob” was said to be a diplomatic representative from a planet some 40 light years away, sent to discuss “matters of mutual interest.”
But it’s hard to believe that an alien from such a distant planet looks so human. Even if the video is a hoax, questions remain; who are the scammers, what do they do it for and what do they gain from it?
Video effects artist Randy Sharp has said the footage is fake: “The technology at the time of production would have required a level of expertise from someone … with a high level of experience or knowledge,” argued Sharp.
But no one has tried to monetize the video, which experts estimate would have cost about $250,000 to create with such precision.
Cinematographic producer Adam Wells, has said that if the video is made, it is made very carefully. but adds that “there is something about his eyebrow that seems to me anima-tronic and not electronic”.
UFO expert Nigel Watson says alien Bob “looks exactly like someone emerging from a flying saucer, like the ones discovered at Roswell,” or from the 1950s Dan Dare cartoons.
He even adds that the subject bears an uncanny resemblance to a drawing sent to him by an alien abductee in 1970.
He adds: “And actually Bob looks very humanoid and not as exotic as one might expect from beings from distant star systems.”
Cinematographer Charley Henley, who worked on Ridley Scott’s Alien series, says there are many reasons why the aliens look so human: “There’s a lot of design related to human anatomy, we put a lot of human aspects to the aliens.”
Sam Levin, a zoologist at the University of Oxford, says it’s not too surprising that an alien would have features similar to ours.
“We can’t tell if the aliens walk on two legs or if they have big green eyes,” says Levin.
It adds: “But we believe in evolutionary theories as tools for understanding what aliens might be like, and we’ve shown examples of the strong predictions we can make. Anticipating that aliens go through transitions, as the complexity of earth’s species shows, we can say that there are levels of evolutionary predictability that could make them look like us.”
