A Japanese hermit who lived alone for nearly three decades on a remote island before being forced to return to “civilization” has recently returned to the island to properly say goodbye, in a series of exciting videos.
Masafumi Nagasaki, 87, was ordered by the Japanese government in 2018 to leave the island of Sotobanari, where he lived his favorite life of isolation in the Okinawa archipelago, where he was nicknamed the “Naked Hermit.”
Nagasaki’s journey has been documented on social media by Alvaro Cerezowho works with a company that distributes tourists to remote locations.
Nagaski is believed to have been a photographer before giving up civilization and had wanted to die alone on the isolated island as he never managed to adapt to the mentality of modern life.
But now officials forced him to return and have given him a room a little before retirement to cover daily needs. Unfortunately Nagaski says he failed to make friends and spent most of his time isolated from viruses.
“His little room has become an island where he isolates himself, where he can live naked and free, as he has done for the last 29 years,” he said. from his comments.
To pass the time Nagasaki often collects garbage from the street as it is disgusted by the pollution created by city dwellers, Cerezo says.
A video posted last week by Cerezo shows Nagasaki just returning to Sotobanari Island so he can say “goodbye” to the place where he lived undisturbed for three decades.
The old man starts to get excited when a boat brings him back to the shores of the island.
“Nagasaki then laughs with joy among the surroundings he knows so well and lets out a pure sigh of freedom,” Cerezo recalls.
But Nagasaki has already returned to Ishigaki, Japan, where he lives in his government apartment, Cerezo points out.
“Fortunately Nagasaki was not sad to leave Sotobanari, and had the opportunity to say goodbye to the island, he has been the hermit who has been isolated for a long time of his own free will.
“What I admire most is that when he was young he was unhappy, as most of us are today. “So he may have ended up with mental illness or other issues, but he decided to isolate himself in that paradise without involving others in his unhappiness, and consequently she passed.”
