The number of births in our country in the first quarter of this year has decreased, according to data published by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT).
The demographic indicators of the quarter reflect the decrease of births, but also of deaths in some lines, as well as the confirmation for the second consecutive quarter of the negative natural increase in the country.
Referring to INSTAT, the number of births for the first quarter 2022 is 6,056, marking a decrease of 4.2%, compared to the first quarter 2021.
The number of deaths for the first quarter of 2022 is 7,938, marking a decrease of 22.3%, compared to the first quarter of 2021. The natural increase of the population in the first quarter of 2022 shows that there are 1,882 deaths more than births.
INSTAT estimates that in the first quarter of 2022, two counties of the country have recorded positive natural increase of the population, while in the other ten counties, the natural increase of the population was negative.
In the first quarter of 2022, the region with the highest natural increase is Tirana, with 203 births more than deaths, while the region with the lowest natural increase is Korça, with 379 deaths more than births.

In the first quarter of 2022, four counties of the country marked an increase in the number of births, compared to the first quarter of 2021, while the other eight counties recorded a decrease, compared to the same period.
In the first quarter of 2022, the region with the highest number of births is Tirana with 2,194 births, while the region with the lowest number is Gjirokastra with 106 births.
The highest increase in the percentage of births during the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period of 2021 is occupied by the region of Vlora with 7.9%, while the largest decrease is in the region of Dibra with 22.0%.

In the first quarter of 2022, all counties in the country recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, compared to the first quarter of 2021.
The region with the lowest number of deaths is Kukes with 146 deaths, while the region with the highest number is Tirana with 1,991 deaths.
The largest decrease in the percentage of deaths during the first quarter of 2022, compared to the same period of 2021, is occupied by the region of Vlora with a decrease of 30.1%.
