The news that the commander of a Russian brigade died after being crushed by a tank by his own enraged soldiers, is confirmed by the British media, which identify the military man who suffered this terrible end as Colonel Yuri Medvedev.
The anger of the troops led by him is said to have been caused by the extremely large losses in battle. Even a Russian lieutenant general of the 49th Combined Weapons Unit is said to have lost his life in the fighting, bringing to 7 the number of senior Moscow military leaders killed in the neighboring country.
A Western official said Russia’s failure to organize had been apparent. The Russian forces numbered 115-120 battalions of tactical groups, but at least 20 of them, are estimated to be no longer in combat efficiency, and are practically withdrawn because their equipment needs repairs, while the losses they have suffered are extremely big.
The same official claims that Colonel Medvedev “was killed by his troops, and this is probably the clearest indicator of the changes that the morale of Russian troops has undergone.” We believe the colonel was deliberately attacked by the tank, he stressed, as images on social media show Medvedev lying on a stretcher with severe injuries to both legs.
