Entering the sixth month, the Russian invasion of Ukraine marks the relentless bombing of the Russian army in the North, South and East of the neighboring country, where fighting continues unabated.
For Moscow’s military, however, the offensive has not come without a cost: multiple reports show it is struggling to replace or repair hundreds of pieces of military equipment damaged in the fighting, as Kiev says it will press ahead with efforts to recover lost territory.
The British Ministry of Defense reported unclear fighting in the east and in the Kherson region in the south, which was occupied by the Russians at the start of the war. The low number of personnel is making it more difficult for Russian commanders to decide whether they want to strengthen their offensive in the east, or strengthen the defense in the west of Ukraine.
The United States and its Western allies could thus send Ukraine up to 30 multiple-launch missile systems that have so far been very effective in destroying Russian weapons depots.
The news was confirmed by US Congressman Adam Smith, chairman of the Armed Services Committee of the House of Representatives, who says that the current goal is to increase the number of missile systems deployed in Ukraine to 25-30.
Ukraine has requested at least 50 of the high-precision missile systems, including the M270 rocket systems, the multiple rocket launcher system (MLRS) and the M142 high-mobility surface-to-air missile systems (HIMARS). The systems can launch missiles far behind enemy lines with an accuracy of several meters, making them very effective.
