Employees of the Israeli Parks and Nature Authority have buried the 17-meter-long whale that came ashore on the beach, nitzanim, near the town of Ashkelon.
Authorities used a tractor and an excavator to dig a giant grave on the sandy beach.
The unusual appearance of Fin whale, the second largest mammal in the world after the blue whale, was initially thought to be related to tar pollution. But the Israeli Parks and Nature Authority said on Friday that experts had determined that the rate of decomposition of the whale that was discovered on February 18 in Nitzanim indicates that it had died about two weeks ago.
The whale came ashore after a storm in the area and caused many Israelis to pull out of curiosity and head to the beach to see it, not even sparing a selfie.
