The Fourth of July parade in Chicago ended tragically with casualties and injuries after a gun attack.
Recently, CNN has published a heroic story, but with a painful ending. The father managed to save his 2-year-old son from the endless shooting by protecting him with his body.
The toddler will now grow up without either parent, as Kevin McCarthy, 37, and his wife Irina, 35, were among seven people who tragically lost their lives.
His grandfather stated that after the shooting, their grandson was walking alone on the streets where the incident happened.
Dana and Greg Ring noticed that the little boy, Aiden, was moving alone and then they contacted the police.
“When we pulled out, the cops looked like they were getting ready for a fight. I will never forget it. It’s not his blood, he’s fine. What should we do?”they declared.
Aiden ended up in the police, where he was then reunited with his grandfather.
“When I picked him up, he said, ‘Are mum and dad coming soon?’ He doesn’t understand.” said the grandfather.
To help the boy, a page has been opened where more than two million dollars have been collected so far, which will be used for his growth and education.
