The troubles of the “president” / SP will be its own, but Rama prefers the right

This process is being led by the majority of Edi Rama through negotiators Balla, Gjiknuri and Spiropali. The problem is with the other side.

From the PD camp, it seems that the election of the president does not seem to be a primary issue. In fact it is. Not for the country but for the PD itself.

The biggest interested party in the name of factoring for internal control purposes of the Democratic Party, is Sali Berisha, whose ticket the Socialists cut without return, as excluded from this process. This was confirmed today by Yuri Kim, meeting with Alibeaj and calling him the incumbent chairman of the Democratic Party. But even the left seems to have developments within it, while the process, although at a distance, is being led by Prime Minister Edi Rama himself.

After asking his deputies to list three names of candidates through anonymous envelopes, Edi Rama at the last meeting of the parliamentary group threw the first milestones on how he sees the identity of the new president.

Sources from this meeting showed Top Channel Rama’s position. The Socialist leader is quoted as stating that: ” Pthe future resident does not necessarily have to be from the SP”.

Rama has further advanced this attitude when he told his deputies why not a 24 carat socialist president.

According to Rama “this would resurrect an old controversy with accusations that the socialist majority has all the institutions in its hands”.

But even in the pink headquarters, this opinion may not find much support. The last president, or rather the only one who came out of the Socialists, is Rexhep Mejdani, in the distant September of 1997.

Many socialist leaders, including Taulant Balla, stated last year that it was time for the president to leave the party. Socialist MPs have until April 29 to submit their favorite names. Opening the envelopes will indicate which attitude will triumph. So far in the office of Taulant Ballës, the first envelope has not arrived yet.

But in the corridors of the pink headquarters there is no lack of the first names seen as potential candidates. Some Socialist MPs contacted by Top Channel on condition of anonymity look at the speaker of the assembly Lindita Nikolla as a first choice. Ms. Nicholas enjoys broad support on the left, along with fresh American assessments.

On Monday, after Lindita Nikolla escorted the troika of SP presidential negotiators, she was immediately received in her office.

The ambassador of the United States, Yuri Kim, also known as a supporter of the cause of powerful women in politics, did not spare a tweet with a presidential emphasis in favor of Nikola:

“We appreciate the leadership of President Lindita Nikolla, in enabling regular debate and discussions by MPs, on behalf of citizens, demonstrating that no one is above the law, and strengthening ties between the US and Albania with democratic institutions”, wrote Kim.

But usually the first elections, especially in the presidential campaigns, turn into the first burns.

All the more so when once every four years there is no shortage of those who can be described as permanent aspirants, or ordinary suspects, candidates to sit in the presidential palace.

Socialist list of dreamers “I want to be a president ”(I want to be president) is long.

It is headed by the former prime minister Pandeli Majko whose name every four years maintains pole position, to climb the presidency ladder.

If that were to happen, he would also be the short-lived member of parliament, with a mandate he received only on Monday.

Mimi Kodheli, former deputy mayor of Tirana and former defense minister though not publicly, does not exclude herself from abandoning her white Fiat sitting in the black presidential Mercedes. Her name has often been rumored for this post, also due to several positions in international organizations.

The only thing that bothers her is that in the April 25 elections, she entered Edi Rama in a group from the window, while he had put her down the list, as well as Pandi Majko.

The group of three non-preferred musketeers in the group is completed by Fatmir Xhafa, whom the official line of the party would very much like outside the assembly. The long political career with white grays on his head, puts the former Minister of Interior and the manager of justice reform Fatmir Xhafaj in the desired positions to lead the country for the next four years.

But all three of these names, not comfortable for Rama in the Assembly, although beside him, would also be a problem for him at the presidency headquarters. The precedent of Ilir Meta, who received 80 socialist votes, to darken their lives for five years in a row, worries the socialists, who have to choose between their conviction for a bio left president, the conviction of Edi Rama for a good president of right, and the desire of Albanians to have in the first place, a normal president.

Paradoxically, the only name close to this definition is not a left-wing name, but one that, for Edi Rama, would be a good right-wing president. But not for the rightists themselves, maybe not even for the Albanians, Lulzim Basha. But for this we have to wait, more than a meeting of Yuri Kim with Alibeaj. The last envelope may have new surprises.
