The Ukrainian parade for the rights of the LGBT + community (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) is expected to take place on June 25 in neighboring Poland, as organizers have estimated they can not hold the ceremony in Kiev due to the Russian occupation of Ukraine.
The so-called Kiev Parade, which would mark the 10th such event in Ukraine, will join similar events to be held in Warsaw.
“We are marching for political support for Ukraine, and we are marching for fundamental rights for the Ukrainian people,” said the leader of the Kiev Parade, Lenny Emson, on June 25.
“It is not a holiday. “We will wait for the victory to celebrate.” Emson has said that the implementation of the law on the state of war in the Ukrainian capital has disabled large organizations such as the Kiev Parade.
Organizers have said they expect about 80,000 participants in Warsaw. They had called in May for people from all over the world to join the organization and be vocal against aggression.
Emson said that Ukraine’s loss in the war with Russia, where the LGBT + community has no legal protection against discrimination or hate crimes, would be a tragedy for the Ukrainian people in general, but this community in particular is in danger of “disappearing completely.”
At the Kiev Parade, people were urged to understand that Ukraine’s geographical borders with Belarus and Russia “are not only the dividing line between the states, but also the border between the territory of freedom and the zone of occupation.”
