The US Congress is ready to pass two bills, which come in the form of sanctions for the Russian occupation of Ukraine.
The first is aimed at suspending trade relations with Russia and Belarus, while the second is a bill banning the import of energy from Russia, including oil, coal and natural gas.
The Senate unanimously approved the two bills this morning.
The trade relations bill is the latest attempt by Congress to strike at Russia and help Ukraine. On Wednesday night, the Senate passed a bill to provide faster military assistance to Ukraine.
Once Congress approves Senate bills, they will be sent to U.S. President Joe Biden’s table for signature, according to the office of the majority leader in the House, Steny Hoyer.
