Of the approximately 6,500 refugees who were admitted to the U.S. from October to February, 692 of them were from Ukraine.
Immigrant associations have urged the administration of US President Joe Biden to ease the rules for taking Ukrainians into the United States, as the number of people leaving Ukraine is rising to two million.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken told CNN on Sunday that the United States is ready to accept refugees.
“The United States is committed to doing all we can, first and foremost, to support countries that bear the immediate burden of accepting Ukrainians and then, as the case may be, if people seek refugee status in the United States, of course, that we will look at this as well and act to provide solutions“, He said.
Most people fleeing Ukraine have arrived in Poland.
