Great Britain finds itself in a deep government crisis after the resignation of two ministers, the one of Finance, Rishi Sunak, and the one of Health, Sajid Javid, who gave up their posts a day ago.
Javid wrote in his resignation that he was clear: that the situation under the current leadership will not change, and therefore, the chief executive has lost his confidence.
Under Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the British Conservative Party is no longer seen in the public opinion as a values-driven party, nor as a force that serves the national purpose.
Javid thinks that even after the motion of no confidence, Johnson did not think to change course.
The resignations came minutes after a row over his decision to appoint Tory deputy chief executive Chris Pincher, who resigned late last week after sexually harassing two men.
Johnson apologized and admitted that putting Pincher in the post was a mistake. However, it seems that he has no intention of retiring from the post of prime minister himself, but will continue the battle for the protection of his leadership.
To the lawmakers in the British parliament, he reminded how at this moment, Europe is facing its biggest war in 80 years, and he will not retreat from his responsibilities.
“He gave me a colossal mandate and I will stay to win the next general election as well. The prime minister’s job is to continue to do the job, and that’s what I’m going to do,” Johnson said.
Johnson quickly replaced the two ministers, elevating Mr Nadhim Zahawi from the education department to the post of Treasury chief and installing his chief of staff, Steve Barclay, as health secretary, but the risk to him remains up.
