A Myanmar court on April 27 sentenced ousted civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi to another five years in prison for corruption.
In this part of the trial, the 76-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner was accused of taking a bribe of $ 600,000 and more than eleven kilograms of gold from a former official of the Yangon region.
She denies all charges. Aung San Suu Kyi was overthrown in a coup in February 2021 and has since been in prison.
In the trial against her, earlier, she was sentenced to six years in prison.
According to the Association for the Aid of Political Prisoners, this local non-governmental organization, in the coup on February 1, 2021, Myanmar security forces killed more than 160 protesters and arrested about 13,000 people.
