A young travel journalist was raped in a hotel in Pakistan by her accompanying guide and an associate, who made videos of the nightmare to use for blackmail, authorities said.
Police in Pakistan have so far arrested two people after the 21-year-old reported the attack, which she said happened while she was visiting a tourist resort in the eastern province of Punjab.
Among those detained was the guide who had welcomed the tourist, who accompanied her to the Dera Ghazi Khan hotel, where the girl says she was sexually assaulted two days ago.
Police said they are investigating how the girl was lured to the rape hotel by the two accused men.
She said she had stayed at the home of one of the accused for several days, who reports said was her local guide.
The US Embassy in Islamabad told the Associated Press network that the consulate in the capital Lahore was providing services to the victim of the attack.
Free Press Journal local network reported that the girl had told the police that she had been gang-raped and that the attackers had made a video of the attack in order to blackmail her.
Although sexual assaults on women in Pakistan are relatively frequently reported, such assaults on foreigners are rare.
Many women in Pakistan do not report assaults or incidents for fear of stigmatization, and offenders often escape justice due to a weak justice system and lack of police investigations.
