More than 900 civilian bodies were discovered in the Kiev region after the withdrawal of Russian forces.
The shocking figures were announced shortly after the Russian Defense Ministry announced it would step up missile attacks in Kiev in response to Moscow’s claims of attacks on its territory by Ukrainian forces.
The warning comes after the loss of the main Russian warship, which a senior US official confirmed was hit by at least one Ukrainian missile.
Amid heightened rhetoric, Moscow continues preparations for a new offensive in eastern Ukraine. Fighting also continues in the besieged city of Mariupol.
