Businesses are suffering for workers. Signs looking for unskilled workers are displayed in various shops, bars and restaurants in the capital. Nearly 1 in 6 of them has these tables
For employment experts businesses have only one alternative to solve this essential problem
Expert Erald Pashaj: Businesses need to increase wages to keep workers and create conditions for them. And I’m not talking about low growth, but about something that is enjoyable and attracts people.
The problem of labor shortages has been pushed to this point by several factors.
Erald Pashaj: There are several factors to this. The first is that we have internal and external demand for workers. Companies have developed and want to increase their workforce, while we also have demand from abroad. There are people who work for foreign companies from Albania, while we also have seasonal workers who flee to border countries. The second is immigration and the third is population aging.
Our labor market has other characteristics as well, while a considerable group of people who do not work comes as a result of social consequences
Pasha: It is a group who are categorized as long-term unemployed. They have not entered the labor market for a year and it is a considerable group. It mainly consists of housewives, who due to the mentality, especially in rural areas do not work.
Beyond all factors, immigration is the disease that is rapidly depleting the workforce. In official statistics there are 400 thousand people who have emigrated in the last decade, almost 40 thousand individuals a year. This amount is alarming for a population of 2.9 million, while a projection conducted by The Economist last year shows that the downward trend will continue.
