Refusing to be vaccinated against the coronavirus cost the jobs of nearly 2,000 doctors and dentists in Italy.
The Italian National Association of Physicians clarified that extreme measures were taken after they failed to present the immunization certificate.
Another 1,656 doctors were suspended in the neighboring country in November last year. Health workers there have all been asked to be vaccinated against Covid 19, according to a law that went into effect in April.
In total, the data show that more than 33,500 doctors are not fully vaccinated in Italy. This figure also includes those who have been cured of the coronavirus and are waiting to be vaccinated, those who have been vaccinated outside Italy and doctors who cannot be immunized for medical reasons.
In addition to doctors, authorities have also announced the suspension of about 6,000 nurses and other health workers due to non-vaccination. Italy recently recorded 2,011 infections per 100,000 inhabitants, while cases have experienced a rapid increase since the beginning of the year.
