“Each of you has the opportunity to change the world.”
With this message, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, addressed the young people present at the Palace of Congresses at the official opening event of the activities of Tirana European Youth Capital. “Can you change your school, can you change your class, yourself, because a man who changes himself can change a class and a man who changes a class changes a school and a man who changes a school changes a city, a man who changes a city changes a nation, a man who changes a nation can change a continent and a man who changes a continent can change the world. You can change the world! You too can change the world. “Each of you has the power and energy to change the world,” he said.
Veliaj said that this is the year of Tirana but also of all young people. “This is our moment, this is our time, this is our day and this is our year, like Tirana, the European Capital of Youth. We have worked hard for this day and today I am humbled, I am today with all respect, with all love, with all thanks to hundreds of boys and girls who have worked for three years for today Tirana to be the European Capital of Youth. I say to you with all my heart: Thank you! A tyrannical hospitality to all those who have come to us today from many countries of the world, to those who have come to us from England, Italy, France, Greece, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro. If I forgot you, we love you so much. Comeelcome to Tirana! ” greeted in his speech the mayor.
The year which focuses on youth and turns Tirana into the epicenter of European youth was considered by the mayor as the greatest chance of Albania and Tirana. “Today,” he said, “we have a chance, we have an instrument in hand called the European Youth Capital and we Albanians know how to face the challenges.” We fall, but we also get up quickly together. We had two difficult years with both the earthquake and the pandemic, but in the most difficult moments we realized that we had boys and girls knocking on every door with a box of food, a box of medicine, a phone call, a need for help. So my friends when we went through these difficult stories like the earthquake and the pandemic, imagine what we can do this year, when the pandemic is coming to an end, where the consequences of the earthquake are being resolved and we have an opportunity to celebrate and work as the European Capital of Youth ”.
While the General Director of Vodafone Albania who greeted the event said that, “Vodafone Albania has always been close to young people, making available the latest word in interconnection technology and digital power, for
connect young people. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to collaborate and invest in programs that empower young people in this country, in digital education, technology and digital inclusion. You will have us by your side during this journey of “Tirana, the European Youth Capital for 2022”, along with the wonderful youth of this country, on the journey to a promising Albania. “
