At the landing ceremony of the first plane of the Tirana-Nisa line, the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj said that this is excellent news in the year when Tirana is the European Capital of Youth to promote it even more.
He added that the transfer of the airport to Albanian investors has led to a reduction in ticket prices for Albanian citizens. “We have seen how in these months of transition in the hands of Albanian investors, the airport has reduced tariffs and barriers that made the arrival of ‘low cost’ companies very difficult. On the other side of the airport, work is being done to expand the terminal with 6 more gates, which will be turned into air gates to give more opportunities for connection to Tirana, especially the young boys and girls of our capital “, he underlined.
The Mayor expressed his conviction that the addition of direct flight lines will also help change the perception of the image of our country.
“This year, when Tirana is the European Capital of Youth, we want to open the city to all those who want to visit it, so that after visiting Tirana, they return to their country with a different opinion about our country. I very much hope that this effort to add these flights, especially the three new flights Paris, Nice and Lyon, will be an opportunity to change the mentality, not only for us, but also for those coming from the francophone world, to see that Tirana has changed. “Tirana is European today and we have deserved not only to be the European Capital of Youth, but also to be a future member of the EU”, stressed Veliaj.
Meanwhile, after the opening of the TUMO center, in Tirana will be implemented another initiative in the field of innovation.
We are working not only to strengthen air links with France, but Prime Minister Rama has launched a special initiative with “Ecole 42”, which is – let’s say – the French version of TUMO, or Factory Berlin, or of Holberton School from Silicon Valley. They too have managed to move forward in the field of innovation, coding, etc. “In today’s generation you should know ‘scratch’, ‘python’ and ‘java’, because these are new languages and a CV without experience in technology is poor today”, said Veliaj.
