After the refugees from Afghanistan, Tirana is ready to host those who left the war in Ukraine.
From the headquarters of the Bektashi World Headquarters in Albania, where he wished the holiday to all Bektashi believers, the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj said that the first refugees will be housed in Tirana families, while the municipality is taking all necessary measures if this number will increase.
“The ambassador informed me that the food truck, which left Tirana, has arrived in Ukraine. We have two more trucks to start, while the first families from Ukraine have started to arrive. In the next two days we will be expecting 40 mothers with children and for this, both I and the ambassador want to thank the families of Tirana. Some will be housed in private families – so many families are offered to keep them at home. “Of course, we as a municipality will be prepared that, if the numbers increase, we will do the same as we did with the refugees who came from Afghanistan.”said Veliaj.
The Mayor added that even this challenge will be managed very seriously, without compromising the accommodation of students in dormitories. “I know, for a country unfamiliar with these things, there is always hysteria – no the dorms took us, but nothing like that happened. Of course, to show humanity, they will have to be processed in a temporary environment. As you can see, the first contingent of immigrants from Afghanistan has left for the United States. So, serious nations do not bother, on the contrary, like our families, which even in difficult days, have started with little, so a nation behaves like a serious family. No one will be harmed, neither the dormitories nor the apartments. It is something we will manage very seriously and with a lot of humility. It is an opportunity for this feast, the call to serve, to materialize into a concrete service“, He declared.
The Ambassador of Ukraine in Tirana, Volodymyr Shkurov, expressed his gratitude to the Albanian citizens and institutions for their support in this difficult situation for Ukraine. “I want to thank the citizens and the Albanian government for their solidarity and support. We have a good cooperation with the government, where we have 50 children, who will go to schools“, Said Ambassador Shkurov.
Meanwhile, Veliaj stressed that this is another moment of solidarity with people in need, not to put obstacles to each other. “This is a moment to not only rejoice in the fact that nature is reborn and spring is coming, but perhaps each of us makes an introspection of ourselves, and says: can I become a little better, can I be a little more useful ? Can we need more and hate less? Can we encourage each other more, without putting pressure on them? I say it’s up to us to be better with each other. Let us be grateful for each other, for what we have and for what God and Abaz Ali have given us in our Nation, in our land, and in solidarity with those who live in difficult times. “declared Veliaj.
