While the whole world is gripped by the fever of a new war front in Ukraine, today the Albanian military remembers the separation from life at the helm of Captain Feti Vogli.
Albania’s military missions in Afghanistan are also washed with Albanian blood. It was February 20, 2012. The commander of the group Feti Vogli had received an assignment from the US command to accompany a US official on her visit to a hospital and a school.
Part of the team was also an Afghan soldier who opened fire with a machine gun in the direction of Feti Vogli who did not survive the injuries.
Another soldier, Aleksandër Peci, and an American colleague were injured. It turned out that the aggressor was one of many Taliban infiltrators in the Afghan army.
In a telephone conversation with Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu, Aleksandër Peci in memory of Commander Feti Vogli said:
“He was a brother to us. He was a very dedicated commander and an irreplaceable guy. A true leader a highly trained officer. For us it was the first loss in Afghanistan and a very big loss for all of us as an EGLA 4 contingent and for the entire Special Forces unit. It will always be in my memory as long as I am in this life. Glory for life the work and memory of COMMANDER FETI VOGLI“Said Aleksandër Peci.
In August last year, in the first TV interview for Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu, Aleksandër Peci told in detail the moment of the murder of Captain Feti Voglit, the Martyr of the Homeland.
Alexander thus told the macabre story of the loss of his colleague.
“It was February 20 and that day was the inauguration of a school that had been closed for many, many years. We were charged with securing a lady who had come from America to see the investments of this school as well as of hospitals and health centers. Before we went to that school we also opened a health center. Then we went to school. We were a group of special battalion consisting of 12 men and we had the main task the physical security of the lady.
Outside were me, Commander Fetiu and American colleague Michael Trost as well as another Albanian colleague Ylber Dajlani. We were dealing with securing the front of the school. Behind us was the police car where an Afghan policeman was who hit us from behind. We did not expect such a thing to happen to us from the police. It had not happened before. We are under volleys. The moment we got the first bullets we fell to the ground. I saw Commander Fetiun severely to the right on the ground and the bullets had taken him in the main veins of his neck from where a lot of blood was coming out. On the other side was American Michael Trost who had taken a bullet in his hand and lost two toes as if he had also received bullets in the leg and started screaming.
At that moment I went to the late commander Fetiu, trying to give him some help. I asked my American colleague how he felt. At that moment, I was bleeding because I had received a bullet in the face. Blood started coming out of his mouth. Under the bulletproof vest I had an ambulance package from which I pulled out the bandage to give myself first aid to stop a bit of bleeding in the neck. At that moment, other members of the group came out, neutralizing and arresting the police. You can not shoot them after it is delivered. It is the law of war and you can not kill it.
The guys from our ward and other assistants came to our aid to support us a little. We stayed there 25-30 minutes until the helicopter came to pick me up, Michael and Commander Fetiun. All the while the medical team of the helicopter was trying through electro-shock blows to keep Commander Feti Voglin alive but it was impossible to save him until the hospital. It was a very difficult dark day for us as it was the first loss since he was the group commander. One of the most prepared guys our ward has had. A very good boy and family. But war has these and we have nothing to do. We have to face everything.“.
