The head of the High Prosecution Council, Alfred Balla told “Top Talk” the crisis that the justice system is experiencing.
He said justice reform has done its job by firing a significant number of prosecutors, about 100 of them so far.
“Vetting has fired 40-45% of prosecutors who have undergone the process. We have over 100 prosecutor vacancies“, Said Balla.
This situation has brought a burden to prosecutors, recording approximately 200 cases per prosecutor, a figure which may affect the quality of adjudication of cases.
“A prosecutor has about 200 proceedings in hand which is a not insignificant burden. The prosecution is not at its best day but I hope something changes this year“, He further added.
According to the head of the KLP, the current situation has led to an increase in the number of candidates from the magistrate school, an increase in the number of judicial police officers and an increase in the support sector.
He added that the new additions will bring 22 new prosecutors in July, expressing optimism for improving the situation.
