Tourism turned out to be one of the hardest hit sectors during the pandemic, but with its end, it seems that this sector is recovering fast.
Referring to the figures of the Institute of Statistics, INSTAT, the entries of Albanian and foreign citizens in the Albanian territory, in April 2022, are 832,920. Compared to April 2021, this indicator results in an increase of 78.6%.
“I think that the 2 years of the pandemic should be excluded as a comparative basis, because any comparison with them, would result in galloping rhythms”, said the President of the Association of Tour Operators, Besnik Vathi.
However, this year there is an increase, even compared to the best year as 2019, this increase goes to 15-20%.
The special feature of this year is that the airport offers more flight opportunities, especially with the arrival of the low cost airline, which has added 47 direct destinations from Tirana. Also this year there are more tourists from Middle Eastern countries.
The war in Ukraine has a strong impact. It was predicted that after the pandemic there would be a huge explosion of tourism on a global scale.
But rising prices have halted that explosion. If it was hoped that the explosion would go somewhere of 30-33% compared to 2019, this year I believe it will go 15-20%, and the main factor is the war.
Of course there will be price increases for the annual holidays as well. The increase can go anywhere up to 15%. If in Velipoja it was 20 it becomes 25. If in Himara it was 100 it goes to 120.
The biggest problem that tourism has is the lack of employees and staff. In Albania this is more difficult, as this sector had no help.
