At least 13 people have died, falling into a well during a wedding in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Police said the tragic victims were all women or children, and were sitting on the metal cover of the well which collapsed from their weight.
Two other people were injured in the incident in the city of Kushinagar.
The tragedy happened on Wednesday evening during the traditional “haldi” ceremony, in which relatives paint the faces of the bride and groom with saffron paint as a sign of prosperity.
After breaking the cover of the well, the other guests rushed to the aid of the fallen and sent them to the nearby hospital. But 11 of them were pronounced dead immediately while two others died while treating their wounds, police said.
Uttar Pradesh Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged authorities to help the families of the victims of the tragedy.
