Turkey yesterday urged Russia to drop its “unilateral” demands and take a more constructive approach to breaking the deadlock with the West and NATO Powers over Ukraine, the French network AFP reported.
“For a proposal to be accepted, it must be acceptable to both sides,” said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu, in the context of preparations for the NATO-Russia Council, a diplomatic advisory body set up in 2002 for co-operation between two blocks, and is expected to meet on January 12th.
Russia and NATO “must come to the table with proposals that can be accepted by both parties. “A unilateral and imposing approach can not be acceptable, wherever its source is,” warned Mevlüt Cavusoglu, adding that “Ukraine’s problem is not unilateral.” Romanian 10TV network.

The two texts presented, one for NATO and one for the US, called for a ban on Western military expansion to the east, particularly in Ukraine and elsewhere in the former Soviet republics in the region.
NATO has repeatedly denounced Russia’s annexation of the Crimean peninsula and demanded respect for the country’s territorial integrity, but conflict with pro-Russian separatists in the eastern Donbas region continues.
