Turkish Presidency spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said in a statement today that Turkey and any other country should help Ukraine and offer more support to Kiev, but not to sever ties with Russia.
According to him, if all countries break off relations with Russia, then there is no one to talk to it about in order to reach negotiations.
“If everyone breaks down relations with Russia, then who will talk to them? “Ukraine needs support in any form in order to defend itself, but Russia needs to be heard in one way or another so that their statements are understood and not justified.” said Ibrahim Kalin.
Turkey is a NATO member, which has good relations with both Russia and Ukraine, and has participated in negotiations between the parties.
The West has responded to Russia with sanctions, but Turkey has preferred not to join despite condemning Russian occupation.
