Health authorities in Turkey are ready to use the domestically produced vaccine against COVID-19, Turkovac, as a booster dose after receiving two BioNTech vaccines.
Dr. Ihsan Ateş, chief physician of Ankara City Hospital, said Turkovac would be administered to volunteers who received two doses of the BioNTech vaccine at least 90 days ago as part of the Phase 2b trials.
According to Dr. Ateş, a total of 1,034 volunteers will be administered the vaccines and the study is expected to be completed within three months.
Furthermore, he added that Turkovac vaccines will be given to adolescents as a first dose, while pregnant women will receive the vaccine from next week.
In line with the pilot study for those younger than 18, 50 volunteers aged 16-18 will receive the Turkovac vaccine.
The vaccine will also be given to 100 other volunteers aged 12-16 and 5-12.
