A Russian refinery has exploded in flames following an attack with what appear to be Turkish bayraktar drones, which have been seen being used en masse by the Ukrainian military.
Russian authorities say the attack came from the direction of Ukraine, as the plant located in the border town of Rostov, released flames and black smoke forcing it to stop production
Russian regions on the border with Ukraine have reported numerous attacks and bombings since Moscow launched the attack on Ukraine.
The head of Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry for the Rostov region said there were two consecutive drone strikes in the morning hours.
“Today at nine o’clock information was received from the firefighters about a fire in the oil refinery, forces and means were sent there to extinguish the fire to a higher degree. “When the first fire units arrived, it was discovered that the vacuum plant at the plant was on fire,” said Sergei Filippov.
The second attack, the Russians say, targeted the crude oil reservoirs at the refinery, the largest supplier of petroleum products to southern Russia, but caused no damage.
Social media footage showed how a drone flying towards the refinery caused a huge explosion after the crash
The refinery has an annual capacity of up to 7.5 million tons and started operating in 2009.
