Politicians have called for action against a mob of 20 men who had shot dead two others in their home after accusing them of slaughtering a cow.
The serious incident took place in the Seoni area of the Indian region of Madhya Pradesh, where also a third man was injured.
Police said the crowd of 20 had visited Sampat Batti and Dhansa, who belonged to another local tribe, accusing them of slaughtering the animal.
After the conflict, the two men were brutally beaten and died on the way to the hospital, the local network wrote. NDTV.
A protest followed the heavy attack and local congressman Arjun Singh Kakodia joined the protesters who blocked the Jabalpur-Nagpur highway demanding action against those responsible.
Police then questioned the suspects and subsequently filed charges against 20 of them, six of whom were charged with murder.
The media reported that a large amount of meat had been found in the victims’ home.
Police chief SK Maravi said: “Two men from a tribal tribe have died. “It is believed that the group of 15-20 went to the victims’ house, accused them of killing the cow and attacked them.”
“Two of the victims died on the way to the hospital, while a third suffered minor injuries.”
Madhya Pradesh is the state in India with the most crimes against tribal men, since the most isolated tribes from the general society.
The country’s parliament speaker Kamal Nath and other politicians called for action on the tragedy.
Nath said: “All possible assistance should be given to the families of the victims and to the treatment of the unborn.”
There are several groups of volunteers created in recent years who claim to stop the theft and trafficking of cows, as well as the protection of the law against the slaughter of cows in some Indian states.
In a Reuters report, cow protection groups were responsible for 63 lynching sessions related to the subject in India from 2010 to 2017.
